Andrew Huddart, Contracts Manager

Previously working as a farm worker and wagon driver before I started at Waitings, I grew up having a close relationship with David and Christine Waiting and spent a lot of my youth with Victoria and Robert, so it just seemed right to come and work for the company when there was an opportunity. The company had a firm but fair reputation for getting the best from people and also being very rewarding.Andrew Huddart

My first role at Waitings was as a tractor driver, progressing on to the specialist drainage machines working on the open cast coal mine reclamation land, in west Cumbria.

I got promoted to Foreman and started looking after the construction side of things and some of our sub-contracts. I was later appointed site manager and all the while still operating our Flag ship digger – a js360 which was my pride and joy. In 2009 I took my Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) exams to become Waiting’s Transport Manager which is a role I did in tandem with my Site Manager role.

In January 2016 I hung up my digger keys and moved into my now role of Contracts Manager which is a great opportunity for me to develop further and to pass on my knowledge and experience assisting Adrian and Victoria to achieve our number one goal which is to provide a safe and efficient solution to all our clients’ needs.

I enjoy the challenges that our clients put in front of us, and then the subsequent satisfaction we all get when we deliver complicated jobs to a high standard.  I have been given many training opportunities including Site management, CPCS, CSCS, first aid, CPC Transport Management, Pipe Welding and so the list goes on…!

At Waitings everyone is counted and you are made to feel part of a valuable team and not just a number like some other companies, and I think this is one of the best things about working for the company. Your efforts are always rewarded with progressive training and we also get invited to join in with corporate days including rugby days and days at the races to name just a few – so we work hard and get rewarded accordingly.
