Pauline Beckwith, Office Manager

My name is Pauline and I am the Office Manager at Waitings Drainage. P

Starting back in September 2000 as an Office Administrator, I joined Waitings leaving behind a very repetitive role with very little variety and started a brand new job, with lots of potential and room for personal career development.

My role as Office Manager is very varied and interesting.  My main duties are managing payroll & HR, accounts – sales & purchases, CIS and VAT returns, PAYE returns, purchase orders and the processing of all payments & banking.  The element I enjoy the most, is that no two days are ever the same… One day I can be sat in my office processing payments and the next I’ll be visiting a site seeing how a project is progressing.  Over the years I have even been known to get ‘hands-on’ and actually go on-site to ‘stone pick’ (i.e. picking up stones from a field – a very technical process!)

Waitings provides plenty of training opportunities and I attended a sage accounts course when we first implemented the sage accounts system – which I passed with Distinction. However, I do remember processing payroll by hand, with all the tax & national insurance tables whereas now with the Sage payroll system everything is processed by the touch of a button.  I also have a First Aid at Work certificate.

I really enjoy my job and with it being a family run business you feel very much part of the team (or family) & appreciated for the effort that you put in. Waitings has changed considerably from when I first started -back in the year 2000, we employed about a dozen people but now we have in the region of 60 employees and expanding.  We have grown gradually as a company but have never wavered from the fact that we are a family run business and uphold strong values and ethics.

I can honestly say this is the best job I have had in my working life, and I enjoy coming to work.
